Dubbo - Narromine
Yesterday I was kindly invited by the Dubbo Field Naturalist & Conservation Society to join in on the "JULY BIRDS AND BOTANY TRIP" on private farm property.
Thank you all so much for this most interesting day!
In the evening we had dinner with some friends of my host.
Thursday 07th of July
Cobar - Dubbo
Slow start in Cobar, washing first, checking emails and the web, then on the road again, filling fuel, checking oil and water, tires pressure refilled. On the road lonely, tired, boring ... music playing loud.
I picked up Benjamin at a bus stop hitch hiking: nice chat, local guy, nice coffee break, told me al lot about farming, wild pigs, his journeys, we spend half a day: great; thank you.
Shopping in Dubbo and calling my host, she is home.
Very nice evening with some great fresh made food: I enjoyed it greatly.

White Cliffs NSW Australien
Tja auf den ersten Blick sieht man nicht viel. Und wenn man keinen Zugang findet, so ändert sich das auch nicht. Galerien, Cafés, Höhlen, Oralgeschäfte, die Ihre eigenen Opale einfassen und Dugout-Wohnungen.
Jocks Place, ein Unikat in seiner Höhle, Wohnung, Müllhalde und Museum in einem und unerforschte Gänge. Die Hügel hier sind wie Maulwurfhaufen, tausende von unterirdischen Gängen. So viele Fotos wie heute habe ich noch nie gemacht, auch weil alle meinten, das sei völlig ok, ich solle mal machen, wozu ich Lust hätte und fotografieren, was das Zeug hält.
Draußen zwischen den "Maulwurfhaufen" und den Schächten immer mitten in einem Steinhaufen super Bedingungen für alle möglichen Pflanzen. So habe ich auch noch eine Menge Pflanzenbilder gemacht.
Der Sonnenuntergang war wieder nur ein Untergang, kein Farbschauspiel. Nette Leute beim Abendessen, gut unterhalten und gut unterhalten worden.
Die Australier auf Reisen sind wirklich so:
Hallo, wer bist du?
Woher kommst du?
Was machst du?
Wie lang reist du schon?
Was arbeitest du?
So geht das immer weiter, insbesondere wenn man dann selber auch diese Fragen stellt und die Leute über sich selber, ihre Stadt und ihre Aufgaben reden lässt, dann wird das immer besser. Sie lieben es über sich selber und ihr Land und ihre Umgebung zu erzählen.
Heute Australier, die in Tasmanien leben und eine geführte Tour mitmachen.
Das Abendessen war ok, wenn das Gemüse auch britisch völlig verkocht war und außer Salz vielleicht kein einziges Gewürz gesehen hatte.
Dagegen war Elizabeth Essen ein einziges Geschmackswunder!
Die Höhlenkammer hier ist ok, wirklich immer genau die gleiche Temperatur, weiß ausgekleidet, raue, grob gemeiselte Wände. Der Weg zur Toilette ist weit, mitten in der Nacht und leider ist diese Gang immer notwendig, mitten in der Nacht, kalt und dunkel. Den Schlüssel darf man natürlich nicht vergessen, sonst wird es eine extrem ungemütliche Nacht. Einmal hatte ich mich schon selber ausgesperrt, allerdings nicht hier sondern in Princetown.

White Cliffs
Today: rain!
After two hour car drive I reached Wilcannia, I thought this place to be the same town like Broken Hill and it is absolutely not! Most people are Aboriginals and only a total of about 500. One filling station and a little shop, that's about it.
I had a hitch-hiker all the way and it was ok. No pleasant place this Wilcannia. I had some food and the tank filled with expensive petrol. And back on the sealed road to White Cliffs I was heading. Always rain fall in between, not strong, but some rain.
I walked around the mound nothing special or great to be seen. Rain starts again, lucky being back in.
Chatting with some people, nice dinner full house, holiday started yesterday, so many families and their kids are out here.

Broken Hill - Menindee
This morning I was up early, because one other couch surfer was announced early 07:00 am., but the train was delayed, because of some broken rail. So when Laura eventually popped in it was quite late. We had a quick breakfast, did some emails and off we where on the road to Menindee, was some lakes on the Murray river 110 km south-west. Seen Emus on the way out besides the road. Some birds of pray and a lot of water in the lakes.
Ancient Sheep sheerer station and some food in the pup.
Evening I was out with the guys from Sydney I had meet yesterday in Silverton. Nice chat, seen some locations, Darlington Hotel, Mario's Palace with it's wall paintings.

Broken Hill - Silverton
Heute bin ich relativ früh los. Hier ist es schon ab 07:00 Uhr hell, da die Zeit eine halbe Stunde zurückgestellt ist, sie haben hier Adelaide Central time.
Mit dem Auto hinaus in die Weite, zum ersten Mal habe ich den Eindruck wirklich draußen zu sein und nicht permanent in Kulturland. Obwohl auch hier Zäune zu sehen sind und immer wieder Spuren menschlicher Aktivitäten, diese sind aber nicht mehr dominant.
Silverton eine verlassene und abgebaute Minenstadt, von der wirklich nur noch einzelne Häuser stehen. Das spannendste hier: Mad Max der Film wurde wohl hier draußen gedreht und es gibt ein Museum: Mad Max II
Zwei Typen aus Sydney getroffen, auch sie sagen Lake Eire ist zur Zeit wohl das Interessanteste, da zum ersten Mal seit 15 Jahren voll mit Wasser und ganz vielen Tieren.
Abends Superessen und Kaminfeuer dabei TV und Bildbearbeitung.

Stuck in Adelaide trying to fly out to Melbourne.

I am sitting in the airport since 06:00 am, flight delayed, which is good, boarding hopefully 09:30 am and out to Melbourne.

Well I finally made it, I am in the city of Melbourne in a nice café with free web-access, had a good burger with chips and a coke. Everything is fine, besides the laundry, no place there really.
I stay in the Elephant Backpacker because I had a recommendation, but it is no good. With some luck only for this night, tomorrow I will be gone ... picking up the car and off we go.
I probably need a map and maybe some sort of car-charger as well.
I will see tomorrow. I am tired, up since 05:00.
