2021 About travelling Australia fo three month

June to August, Winter 2011
After travelling eastern Australia from Melbourne to Cairns and as far inland as Broken Hill for three months, I share some of my conclusions.

After this three months of travelling through Australia, what do I think about it?
It is a big country, almost a continent, vast, but still an island.
Sheltered like an island with wonderful air and not much to worry about.
People do not seem to know this.
Technically and socially they are way back compared to Europe society, in average about 20 years.
Everybody was very nice to me, I liked the greetings and their open approach towards strangers, I appreciated this very much!
The country is vast, usage of the land is wasteful, space is wasted everywhere.
Native forest is “cleared”, which means destroyed.
Tropical rainforest is transformed into simple grassland for grassing cattle: crazy! What a waste.
Instead of native animals like kangaroos, there are European or Indian cattle cultured.
Instead of building solid roads, people drive big wasteful 4WDs.

Australia is a very safe place to travel.
The Australians are almost paranoid when it comes to risks and dangers.
Their warning signs are an exaggeration of any possible threat.
But in fact, almost nothing ever happens and if anything happens it is big news in all the media, so people think it is a big issue even, so it was a singular event or action.
If you are seeking an easy-going place to life, Australia is definitely one of the easiest worldwide.
One year of work and travel is a good start for young people. You should know the language and be professional in at least one job. One of the best paid jobs right now is plumber.
Jobs in the outback in mining are highly valued because they need comparatively many workforces, but most Australians dislike living in the outback. If you like that, you can make really a lot of money in a few years.
But never forget: Australia is an island, undoubtedly a big one, but still an island, and that is one of the problems. Australians start to think they are the world because they disconnected, and that is only a part of it. Wherever you need to go, it is a long way really, which means it costs a lot of money and time.

What else?
People are mostly much more relaxed and open-minded than in Europe. There are friendly manners and have a Christian, European cultural heritage.
I liked it very much. It is nice having plenty of space around you.
