Innisfail < Hypipamee Crater | Atherton Yungaburra | Malanda
I woke up early, the morning sun shining into my single room at Codge Lodge. A hot shower, breakfast, collecting all my belongings, leaving the room keys, packing the car and taking the cloth from the cloth line!
After reading the leaflet, that Innisfail is the “Art Deco” town of Australia, I decided to take photos in the morning. I was very lucky with clear blue skies and a bright sun. (See some images)
Refilling the car and cleaning the window screens, I drove up Palmerston Highway again and passed Millaa Millaa and went straight up to the Hypipamee Crater.
There were many people from Sydney Uni doing a scientific survey of the waterhole down 85 meters in the crater, interesting. They had been down below the water surface 60 meters deep and estimated there is another 60 meters still to dive to discover. Difficult conditions, bad view and very deep, but not too cold, 17°.
I made it to Atherton because I thought that's a futuristic place: not at all. I had lunch in the hotel: it was no good, the worst burger I had in Australia.
